ACORD Social Marketing Officer Job in Nairobi Kenya

Job Summary

The Social Marketing Officer will focus on areas of work that are new to ACORD with a view to generate financial and ideological support for ACORD's work on generating policy and practice changes. The position will also support the efficiency of ACORD's advocacy campaigns and is located in Nairobi, Kenya. He/she will collaborate extensively with colleagues across the organisation.

Responsibilities

Within the broad parameters set in ACORD's approved global strategy 2011-2015, and related strategies and policies:
  1. Support the enhanced efficiency of ACORD's people-centred advocacy campaigns;
  2. Contribute to increasing traffic on ACORD's website;
  3. Support overall marketing with a view to mobilise unrestricted funding and funds from non-traditional sources, e.g. corporations;
  4. Contribute to a culture of information sharing and organisational learning in social marketing and communications;
  5. Any other emerging tasks as agreed with the Partnership Development and Communications Advisor

Required qualifications

  • First degree in Marketing or equivalent professional qualification; a Masters degree is an added advantage;
  • 3-5 years working experience in marketing or related field of expertise;
  • Experience in all aspects of implementing and maintaining marketing strategies including Technical marketing skills and sound understanding of marketing principles
  • Knowledge and proven experience in new social media, online marketing, customer/donor relationship management and market research;
  • Fully conversant with ICT and office applications. Experience with relevant software applications

  • Formal presentation skills (for a private sector and donor audience);

  • Good understanding of the development challenges in Africa and trends in social marketing and fundraising
Time frame: The contract will be for 1 year with possibility for extension.

ACORD Livelihoods Thematic Manager Job in Nairobi Kenya

Job Summary

Under the supervision of the Head of Policy & Advocacy and as part of the pan Africa program team, the Pan Africa Livelihoods Thematic Manager will take the lead on research and livelihoods & food sovereignty related policy at pan Africa and global levels and provide support to area programmes and other themes. This position is located in Nairobi, Kenya.
Specific responsibilities:
1. Research , analysis, policy  and lobbying:
  • Keep abreast of Research and policies development on food sovereignty, economic and trade justice and feed the PAP and ACORD in general;
  • Analyse existing research, advise on new ones and follow through the process of development with the view to ensuring and managing quality;
  • Take the lead in preparing pertinent briefing papers, positions papers and recommendations on current economic, trade justice agriculture policies, and food sovereignty policy;
  • Technical guidance and feed in of ACORD lobbying and advocacy in development of technical and strategic arguments.
2. Support Area/Country Programmes by keeping them informed and updated on relevant development and issues with regards to economic and trade justice and in particular on food sovereignty; liaise and consult with area program managers and other interested parties to identify research, policy needs and activities in alignment with ACORD pan African ambitions
3. Support advocacy work including popular campaign and lobby by preparing advocacy material (e.g. briefing notes for press, popular material); supporting CSOs partners and farmers movements in their technical work and position statements and working with the rest of the PAP team to ensure that material produced by ACORD are accurate, understandable for the intended audience and participate in quality assurance.

Competencies and skills requirements

  • Masters in Social Sciences, Sustainable Development or Agricultural Sciences or similar field;
  • Minimum of Four (4) years working experience at Management level in Research and policy work in the INGO sector at Pan-African and International level;
  • Strong experience in strategic planning, policy formulation, research and policy analysis in area of economic justice, trade and agriculture, lobbying and media work;
  • High level of conceptual, strategic thinking and analysis skills;
  • Very good understanding of food sovereignty and economic justice issues specifically at the level of Policy influence in the Pan-Africa scene;
  • Highly conversant with Civil Society and Social Movement approaches on food sovereignty work at Pan-African level;
  • Good organisational, research, negotiation and analytical capabilities;
  • Able to manage workload and meet deadlines;
  • Experience in popular mobilisation and policy advocacy at international level, alliance and partnership building;
  • Bilingual: English-French spoken and written is an essential requirement for the position;
  • Excellent Communication (written and oral) and Public Relations skills;

Action Aid HROD Country Group Coordinators Job in Kenya

ActionAid has recently approved its Strategy for 2012-2017, ‘People’s Action to End Poverty’, which reaffirms the organisational commitment to a human rights-based approach to development.  A key part of our new strategy focuses on staff capacity building, and the effective support of HROD to the Members and Country Programmes.
The Directorate for HROD and Governance has identified 7 Country Groups which will be serviced by Team Leaders in respective regional hubs. We are aiming to recruit HROD Country Group Coordinators that will be part of the Country Coordination core teams, jointly responsible for managing the supply and demand of HROD & Governance requirements for their respective countries.  These Coordinators will form part of the functional HROD Country Coordination Team reporting to the HROD Country Coordination Manager who will be the team lead.
HROD Country Group Coordinators will be the first-line interface of the International Secretariat to Country Directors and their HROD Teams. Looking into 2012-2017, the Coordinators will ensure capacity building, HROD planning, HROD monitoring and reporting for their respective countries. The key success indicator for this role will be organisational health and capacity of HROD in-country to play a strategic role and the extent to which international – national HROD standards and practices are embedded.
Desired Skills & Experience
Formally, you should have a post-graduate degree in social sciences or management with an emphasis in HR. Advanced certification in HR practice is highly desirable.HR experience in a multi-country context of a minimum of 5 years is required in this role together with professional accreditation.
The successful candidates will be Senior HROD Partners and Coordinators who have experience of the respective regional country group they will be supporting. This will be coupled with experience in international HROD, as there will be joined ventures on global projects. Experience of the INGO sector is desirable, with a good understanding of the structure and dynamics of a Federal organisation
Incumbents must have a good understanding of the respective regional dynamics, HROD contextual issues around labour legislation as well as ability to communicate in regional languages.
Experience in HR process and internal consulting will be required, with a strong focus on capacity building of country HROD staff. The key desired competency is: extensive experience in capacity building, HR planning, monitoring and reporting. The ability to lead country HROD Teams is essential. The HROD Partner will also provide leadership and coaching support to senior management teams in country. Your ability to build strong relationships, trust and capacity building will be critical in this role.
At a personal level, you must have a strong commitment to a human rights based approach to development, champion women's rights and value working with diverse cultures and the poor and marginalised groups. Your ability and willingness to travel internationally and work flexibly in virtual settings and distant management would be required.
